Book Discussion Group: Reading Ahead

So you can order books, check the library, etc. and be prepared for our upcoming book discussions:

The Sentence by Louise Erdrich – late July/early August
We’ll discuss this unique book about books (and other things) – that also takes place in Minneapolis during 2020’s most difficult period around George Floyd’s murder and the pandemic.

Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley – October (author present)
The debut novel by a Smith student became a NY Times bestseller and an Oprah Book Club pick. We are thrilled that Leila will join us for the discussion. She was a student of Ruth Ozeki’s.

Two Wars & a Wedding by Lauren Willig – January 2024 (author present)
Another historical novel about Smith students by the author of “Band of Sisters.” Set in the early 19th century, this is an epic story of war and friendship, with women trying to make their way in a male-dominated world. We had a great time with Lauren previously and are delighted that she will join us again!

We will let you know when dates are firmed up. We may choose to meet in person for “The Sentence.” If you have any strong thoughts about this, or questions and suggestions, please feel free to contact Barbara Klaas, our intrepid book leader, baklaas@gmail.com.
