Morning with an Architect

Are you dreaming of a home remodeling project, but don’t know how to start? Do you wish you had a friend who was an architect and could come and help?

Melanie Kiihn, ’93, will consult with you about your hopes, plans and wild ideas so you can clearly envision your project and move into action. More than a few Smithie remodels have started this way!

After a fun, 1 to 2 hour, home consultation with you, Melanie will spend a few hours to create a plan and sketches or a written list of suggestions that describe a way to turn your ideas into a focused home improvement project.  You will be ready to move forward, whether you are planning to do-it-yourself, work with a design professional, or hire a contractor.

The flexible consultation can be any time of day, hybrid with a short visit and video chat.  Or, with a little homeowner legwork to measure, draw existing plans, and take some photos, it can be done fully by video chat for social distancing.

Examples: Improve your kitchen layout, add a bathroom, build a deck or patio, or consider a small addition (small projects work best in this short format).

Melanie has a Masters in Architecture from Yale, is a registered architect with 15 years of experience in residential homes and additions, sustainable building, and design for historic homes.
